Assignment:

Attend the exhibition listed above on a date of your choice. You are to view the exhibition and take notes of the prints on exhibit. You need to spend a good amount of time with each piece within the exhibition. Your goal is to get a sense of overall themes, subject, composition and context of the work. After viewing the entire show, then select four photographs from each photographer that you feel appealed to you the most. Take detailed notes on each of these photographs as they will mostly be the subjects you refer to in your report.

From your observations, discuss and analyze the selected prints on several various levels including: techniques used, style, genre, technical quality, artistic sensibility, composition, mood evoked, statements made with the piece or with the body of work, issues that the work addresses, lighting. Also position the artists within the context of other artists working within their day (present or past), make comparisons between the two artists or with other artists we have viewed or ones that you are familiar with. Be sure to include the title of the piece, date, name of artist when introducing the photograph for discussion. Remember that a good critique of work may include why you like/ appreciate the work and also why you may dislike or feel unconvinced/ unimpressed about the piece as well. Be sure to have sufficient reasons to support these views, it should not be merely an opinion, but an informed evaluative viewpoint.

This paper should at least 2- 4 pages in length, but no more than four. All homework assignments should be a typed, & single or 1 1/2 spaced.
